icy uganda

ICY Uganda is headed up by Aaron Batte and Wilson Kabera, and is made up of a team of amazing volunteers. Based in Kampala, the beautiful capital of the heart of Africa, the team are involved in a wide variety of youth ministry.

Each week the team take a service in the remand home where they have seen many young people come to the Lord including the volunteer leaders of the Remand Home Ministry Team. Other regular input includes visits to orphan homes and handicapped schools, all part of the heart of ICY Uganda which believes the gospel is really good news for the poor!

The team also get involved in schools ministry taking assemblies, lessons and lunch time groups, and youth groups from churches of all denominations. When they can, the team get out of the city for the bush where they hold week long missions.

New for 2007 is the extension of a project first piloted in Kenya by ICY Uganda’s good friends, Praise Youth Ministries. With youth ministry in its infancy in Africa, and Bible teaching often very poor, PYM have put together a Bible Teachers Course, which aims to raise up a new generation of Bible Teachers. The course is being launched this year for ten emerging leaders, who it is hoped will each go on to train a small group of leaders. Ultimately Aaron and Wilson believe the ICY Bible Teachers Program will become the most significant work of ICY Uganda, hopefully training thousands of young leaders to teach the Bible to young people.

ICY Uganda also holds youth camps and is planning a major concert early next year using ICY musicians from Australia and the UK.

Aaron, Wilson and the team welcome visitors, be they individuals or small groups, coming for two weeks or two years. If you have a group wanting to visit, then the ICY Africa Director, Denis Kigongo, can organise your visit from start to finish. Click here for more details

Individuals or groups of 2-4 people can visit for just a few weeks or stay for a few months or even years. Basically you just join the team, living in the ICY Uganda house in Kampala, and working alongside the team in all they do. If you cover your airfares and visa to Uganda, the team will pick you up from the airport, and cover all your costs from there, for the nominal cost of $180 per week for short visits, and $375 a month for longer visits. This includes your accommodation, food, and your work travel and costs around Kampala. We aim to have between 4-10 on what we call our Ministry Support Team working alongside the ICY Uganda staff and volunteers, and can pretty much take on visitors at any time for any period, providing we have room in the house. We also aim to use your gifts to the full so would seek to devise a program to suit you! Basically we try to be as flexible as possible to give you the very best experience we possibly can. The MST as we call it is headed up in Uganda by Flic Nicholls, a Brit with a Ugandan’s heart!
