Short Term Mission Opportunities in East Africa This August

In addition to its year round flexible program of short term mission opportunities, this August International Christian Youthworks are offering some unique opportunities to join an international team working on youth camps in East Africa.

International Christian Youthworks is a global partnership of like minded youth ministries including ICY Uganda, Praise Youth Ministries Kenya and Alliance Ministries Tanzania. All the African works are led by Africans and serve the national church. They welcome individuals sent by ICY partner works from elsewhere in the world, who are prepared to live, work even eat African! If you are prepared to get stuck in like this, they will guarantee you the most authentic experience of Africa, as well as the most fruitful and affordable ministry time. They can even be flexible to fit in with your gifts and preferred dates, and can tailor a package for you individually, with a couple of friends or else as a group.

This August, the Kenyan and Ugandan partners are joining together to hold youth camps first in Uganda and then Kenya. You can join a team consisting of folk from across East Africa, as well as Europe and America. The provisional dates of the camps, to be confirmed at the East Africa Leaders Conference in early March are:

6-10 August Uganda

13-17 August Kenya.

We can offer you one of three opportunities:
Uganda Camp
Fly to Uganda to help prepare for the camp and experience the ministry of ICY Uganda, then join the leadership team of the camp at whatever level you are most comfortable: speaking, sports, small group leadership, admin and serving. After the camp there will be the opportunity to go on safari After the camp there will be the opportunity to go on safari, white water rafting, quad bike bush riding or something equally crazy.

Kenya Camp
Fly to Kenya to help prepare for the camp and experience the ministry of ICY Kenya, then join the leadership team of the camp at whatever level you are most comfortable: speaking, sports, small group leadership, admin and serving. After the camp there will be the opportunity to go on safari either locally or in the Masae Mara.

Uganda/Kenya Camps
Fly to Uganda to help prepare for the camp and experience the ministry of ICY Uganda, then join the leadership team of the camp at whatever level you are most comfortable: speaking, sports, small group leadership, admin and serving. Then jump on the bus to Nairobi with the rest of the team and do it all again in Kenya. After the camp there will be the opportunity to go on safari either locally or in the Masae Mara, and then it will be back home either by bus back to Kampala or straight out of Nairobi.

There is some flexibility over dates and you can come earlier or stay later, but the basic dates for the trips are:

Uganda Camp only:

Arrive Uganda 1st August, depart 13/14th August
Kenya Camp only:

Arrive Kenya 7th August, depart 20/21 August
Combined camps:

Arrive Uganda 1st August, depart 20/21st August

Costs: You will need to pay for all your costs to get to and from Africa. This includes your flights, medical care and insurances, and visas, ($35-$70). In addition we ask you to pay

$180 a week for your stay, which covers all basic travel, accommodation and food.
$100 camp fees for each camp
$100 transport between countries for those doing the combined trip.

Finally you will need to pay for any safaris and other optional extras.

The costs are low because you will live, travel and eat with the African team. It is basic but safe.

If you are interested, complete an application form, and return it to Melissa Piper, melissa@icy.org.uk. Places are limited, and we already have a number of applicants, but the key for us is not filling places but rather prayerfully putting together the Lord’s team.

So if you are still interested, either:

1. Complete an on line application form by clicking here

2. Email Colin or Melissa Piper with a question
