PRACTICAL DETAILS

Well done for making it this far. This is where we get very very practical and tell you how things work. Having said that if we don’t answer your questions you may like to go to our Frequently Asked Questions Section, and if this doesn’t answer your question, make some web site history by asking us directly by email and we’ll update the FAQ section with the answer!.

Well done for making it this far. This is where we get very very practical and tell you how things work. Having said that if we don’t answer your questions you may like to go to our Frequently Asked Questions Section, and if this doesn’t answer your question, make some web site history by asking us directly by email and we’ll update the FAQ section with the answer! We can also put you in touch with someone on the program you’re interested in who is either from your country or in the country you want to go to! You can then ask them directly how it all works.

This is how it works:

1. Work out what course you want to study, Bachelors, Post Grad or Unaccredited. You need to be realistic. Can I study at that level? Just as importantly do I want to? If you are more interested in the mission and youth ministry aspect of the opportunity then the Diplomaoption is probably best for you.

2. Work out where you want to go, unless of course you want to be based at your home church! Remember at this stage the UK is most established program, and if you opt for another you will be pioneering! There is something exciting about being a part of something new. The good news is the courses are what are called rolling courses so you can pretty much start when you want.

3. Ask yourself whether you can afford the costs of what you are considering. A basic £2200 or $4000 which covers not only what we have to pay Together in Mission to deliver the course, but also all your books. There are other costs too of course such as travel to your placement, possible insurances and visas. Those based in Tennessee need to raise an additional $1250 for their international conference in the UK, (to cover travel, conference and board and lodging!). Then there are other opportunities you may like to fund raise for such as taking part in mission trips. We have priced everything to make it very affordable, but to make the most of your time, you will need to work at fund raising.

patriarh the book. taken from www.biblenovels.comWe can help with this. ICY is a faith ministry but one way we support it is through the sale of a book called Patriarch. Basically you can get your friends to buy this and ask for all the profits from its sale to go to you! For more details, click here

4. Pray and take advice. ICY is essentially a number of partnerships. We would want to include your family, friends and church in that partnership as we seek to serve you. This means we would want to involve them and be involved with them at every stage of your application process. We welcome emails, phone calls, and even, where possible, meetings with those important to you. You can visit a conference in the UK or a cluster in Nashville.

5. If you have questions, please email either Colin and Melissa, the Executive Directors of ICY, or students presently on the course. Colin and Melissa can put you in touch with the most relevant guys for you to talk to and you should feel free to ask them anything you like! Colin and Melissa between them will initially deal personally with your application, wherever you choose to go. If you think you know enough or have had your questions answered, send Colin and Melissa an application. This commits you to nothing, but it helps them pray through where you might fit.

6. Either Colin or Melissa will then give you a call, if they haven’t already done so. They are happy to talk to mom and dad, your pastor or anyone else come to that. After this, we all need some time to pray and ask the Lord whether this is where you should be.

7. We are looking for people who love God, love young people, want to learn and serve, are teachable, team players, humble, and have some experience and embryonic gifting. If we think your application suggests you fit this profile, we’ll take up references. Meanwhile we will keep in touch with you and you should feel free to write to us any time at all.

8. If your references are good, we will ask you to shoot a short DVD which we will then add to a pack containing your application, references and anything else you’d like us to put in there. We then pass this on to the leaders of our partners in the particular country you want to be based in. They will then liaise with you directly to find the right church placement, or if you are planning to join the program from your home church to work out the practicalities of this.

9. There will now be further interviews, maybe in person, perhaps by phone or internet, the purpose of which is for you to ask as many questions of the church as them of you. It is vital we find just the right place for you. This can therefore take a very long time! Be warned. It can’t be rushed though. We need to hear from God!

10. Finally we draft agreements between you, your church, the College, the partner work and ourselves so everyone knows exactly what to expect. We send you information for you to get a student visa if you need one, help you fund raise if you need to, and answer any and every question you, mom or dad or anyone else can think of!

11. And finally…. It will be time to start. It all begins with an Induction program in September, January or April, and then you move on to your placement.

So there you have it! Now you have three options
