We have immediate placements available for those wishing to study and minister or do a gap year in the UK.
You can study at:
Undergraduate level. We are working with Together in Mission who have taken the Bachelors Course put together in Australia by the Australian College of Ministry and are now offering it through Birmingham Christian College, (BCC) here in the UK. Validation through the BCC course is pending with the University of Wales. We have students studying at first, second and third year, and can transfer credits from other similar B(Th) courses. We welcome applicants from North America, Europe and Oceania, as well as Brits wanting to study at their home churches.
Postgraduate level. Also in partnership with Together in Mission and Birmingham Christian College. At present the course is taught at local Together in Mission hubs, but this year we aim to set up an exclusive Youth Ministry teaching hub at our conferences. Again we welcome applicants from North America, Europe and Oceania, as well as Brits wanting to study at their home churches.
Diploma level. A great youth ministry course put together by our friends from Reign Ministries in the US, and accredited internally. All the input without the assignments! The cost is just £500, ($1000) per year and this can be offset against a weekly allowance
you will receive. Great for those wanting the cross cultural mission experience together with a funded UK based gap year or those Brits simply wanting to join a network and get some additional training.
MNet
The Great Britain expression of ICY is the Missional Network of Youth Ministers, or MNet. These guys have a shared passion for evangelism, seeing young people come to faith and be discipled in faith. They are all local church based. Present clusters are centered around Birmingham, East Midlands, Oxfordshire and East Anglia, but more are joining in all the time and if you wish to join this network from outside this area, we will do all we can to accommodate you.
MNet is led by Aussies, Charlie and Ruth Morris, Americans Darin and Joy Stephens and Kyle
McKinnon, (all from Ohio !). At present there are about 25 emerging leaders networked together and we have vacancies in
September 2007, January 2008 and April 2008 for up to 25 more!
Murlough House
Across the water in Northern Ireland ICY partners with the faith ministry of Murlough House. Led by John Moxen, this amazing work has over the years been given a stately home, a pub, a youth hostel and community hall, a camp site and sports hall! It seeks to reach communities from both sides of the Irish borders and divides for Christ. Again totally locally church based, John and his team are looking for visionary, passionate emerging leaders to join a small team and place with local churches. At present the team flies to England for all conferences.
These networks give you support on every possible level.
Most people are placed with a local church with whom they work day by day. Then once a week they meet together with the others in their town or very local area, for support and tutoring. Here they are mentored and led by an experienced worker, but also have space to meet together with friends and colleagues to pray, share and just relax. The only exception to this is if you are ministering from your home church where there isn’t a local network, then the on going supervision may look a little different.
Once every two months we meet together with all those placed across the UK for a week long conference. Here students receive lectures for both accredited and unaccredited courses, but also have the opportunity to be a part of a national vision. Five times a year the UK joins the trainees and students based across wider Europe for continental conferences. These times are particularly visionary as you join with those placed in countries as diverse as Austria and Poland. Then once a year everyone comes over, including the Americans and when possible, the Africans!
There are also mission opportunities to other ICY partners, such as those in Africa. You will need to cover costs for these, but they are very worth doing, so start saving. As you will read we have a scheme to help all ICY workers fund raise for themselves and their young people on mission trips! From local church to global mission, we hope to network and support you.
If you wish to be based at their home churches, we do need to ensure you are part of a vibrant learning community. In particular we need to ensure you have access to an experienced supervisor and tutor who both has the time and gifting to support and care for you in the very best way. Do though, let us know if you are interested in joining the ICY team and training and studying with us from home or another location, and we can explore whether this is viable.
By the way European applicants can receive funding for the Diploma programmes through the European Volunteer Scheme, which also covers travel and insurances.
