THE POSTGRADUATE COURSE UNWRAPPED

Aimed primarily at those already experienced in youth ministry, the post graduate qualification is offered through Together in Mission and is deliberately general in content allowing the student to apply principles to youth ministry, and lay a foundation for a life time of ministry wider in scope than just youth ministry. The course allows a chance to reflect on leadership theory and practice, especially youth ministry in the context of the planting and developing of missionally oriented churches in a Western post-Christian context.

The Certificate and Diploma are entirely taught. The Master's degree involves the same number of taught modules as the Diploma, but also involves a research dissertation. The amount of work involved in each phase is measured in "credits" - up to 120 for the taught modules, 60 for the MA dissertation.

The term “modular” refers to the way that the taught part of the course is broken down into a number of self-contained courses, or modules. Each is individually credit-rated (typically 120). All are assessed by written coursework assignment.
The Masters course has been validated by the University of Wales. This guarantees standards and international recognition, while allowing Together in Mission to teach entirely their own curriculum in a supportive and practical Christian environment.

Taught Modules

406.1 Theory of missional leadership models (20 credits)
406.2 Leadership Attributes (20 credits)
406.3 Leadership Skills (20 credits)
406.4 Christ, Gospel and Culture (20 credits)
406.5 Contemporary Mission in Practice (20 credits)
406.6 Creating Future Leaders (20 credits)

The PgCert requires the completion of 60 credits from the above, and basically involves one year of ministry and study with ICY

The PgDip and MA require the completion of 120 credits from the above, or two years of ministry and study with ICY.

Dissertation (MA only)
408 Thesis - a 20,000 word research dissertation.

The dissertation amounts to a first step into the world of Christian writing and research. Got a real “project” in you, just bursting to get out? The MA includes taught sessions on research methodology and the discipline of writing to help you get through what is effectively a book-length project. In the dissertation, you have the complete freedom to get into a subject area that will really make a difference in your future ministry, or that has simply always fascinated you.
